As well as Ivan we can also firmly lay the blame for this kayak malarky on Dougal Glaisher and Francis Huntingford. Putting them in a K2 together in September 2015 when we were coaching the Blundell's School Kayak Club proved life changing, for all involved. They were the fastest Junior Crew in the infamous Devizes to Westminster in 2016 and 2017, and Dougal went back for more with Billy Butler in 2023, coming second in the Senior straight through race.
Dougal is one of life's adventurers, with an innate curiosity and desire to explore. As a very succesful GB Ocean Racing team member he progressed to adventuring after being diagnosed with Type One Diabetes at the age of 19, paddling 5500km round Europe, followed by the circumnavigation of GB in 2023, smashing the previous record of 63 days, completing it in just 40. Coaching Ashley Cain on the third leg of his Ultraman Challenge, paddling from Land's End to John O'Groats, in 2024 as a small interlude who knows where Dougal will head next, but we'll be watching and willing him on.
